I'm old, and I've been shooting and reloading since I was about 7.
I started depriming and sizing brass for my father with a RCBS rock chucker press (which I still have) have now primarily use a Dillon 1050, and several Dillon 550b(s)

I have been a shooter/member of IDPA and IPSC, though I'm not current, and I have not been to a competition in quite some time.

Lately I've been into shot shell reloading, and trap shooting.

110K Primers

Placed a new primer order, Price break was at 100K. 110K Primers isnt as impressive as I thought it might be. This should last a couple months…

The AR57 select fire debacle…

I love the idea of the 5.7, so it was all to natural to end up with a five-seven upper for my AR. When I tried that on my select fire receiver, I instantly fell into sad panda mood… Turns out the bolt carrier group provided is semi auto ONLY. Since its a special BCG, replacements were needed.

Just a pic of the two side by side shows there is not much difference, but enough to kill the giggle switch.

Wet Tumbling changed my life

Purchased a Frankford Arsenal Rotary Tumbler to give this a shot for some of my rifle ammo.

If you are even remotely thinking about getting one,

stop,

go do it.

Do it now!

I let it run for 3 hours, which was likely much longer than it needed to run, but WOW, let me say that again WOW.

After YEARS, and I mean, 20+ years of corncob, walnut, etc, I realize I was wasting my time.

This is what I started with

THIS is the real deal. Clean inside and out.

Go ahead, click it, you know you want to see what it really looks like!

The kit came with a sample soap/softener, and a pack of stainless steel pins, and its really a “dump the stuff in and hit go” This method takes a little longer, that I will admit. You need to rinse and dry the brass well, that takes some time. But the juice is worth the squeeze. Cost of operation should be less over time, as you wont be rebuying media or additive. Another plus is that you wont be breathing all that crap/dust as you sift the brass from media. That alone is worth the upgrade.

This is a full 10 out of 10 Reloader-Rob recommendation!

Why didn’t someone tell me earlier?!?!?!

Be safe, and save me your brass!

30 Carbine reloading

30-m1-carbine11

After months of procrastination, I’ve finally reassembled everything to load some 30 carbine. This puts 300AAC on hold, because they share a powder funnel on the Dillon 550B, but thats ok.

I went back to my logbook, and realized that last time I loaded this, I used 12 graisn of Accurate #9, behind a Phelps lead bullet. Phelps closed 15 years ago, yikes!

Fast forward to some FMJ 110 bullets, and I need a new powder!

Options:

Accurate – AA #9
Alliant – 2400
Hodgon – H110
Hodgdon – Lil’Gun
IMR – IMR4227
IMR – SR4759
Ramshot – Enforcer
VihtaVuori – Viht N110
Winchester – 296
Winchester – W-680

I really wanted something clean, because I intend to use this in pistols as well as rifles, so my pick for today is…

Hodgdon H110

13.5 grains of Hodgdon in front of some small rifle primers. (some people have concerns and upgrade to small rifle magnum primers, but I’ve not had that problem, yet)

As a starting point.
